R. Kent Baker Racing was conceived in 1987 with a goal of participating in the 1988 Indy 500 with Phil Krueger driving and preparing the car. The 1988 Indy Race became a media bonanza for the team, We were the only participant with a two year old car, qualifying well and finishing in 8th place. Phil Krueger also received the coveted Clint Brawner award that year for car preparation. The team continued to participate at Indy though 1991 with drivers such as: John Paul Jr., Steve Chassey, Dean Hall and the late Stan Fox. The team had great success for a small operation and ended up receiving the Clint Brawner Award for a second time in 1990 with Tom Mulligan.
In 2006 IMS asked us to come back and assist with filling the Indy 500 field. Team Leader Motorsports was founded and we raced in 2006 with two cars driven by Stephan Gregoire and PJ Jones. In 2007, we fielded our last entry with PJ Jones in the 40th Anniversary Turbine livery made famous by his father, Parnelli Jones in 1967. Parnelli actually drove our car in throw back livery before qualifying day. Late in 2007, we sold our equipment to Sarah Fisher for her effort in 2008, and spawned the beginning of Sarah Fisher Racing. In the years following, we successfully campaigned a Stohr Wf-1 in the SCCA and SVRA.
Through the years we maintained our vintage collection of Indy Cars and Indy Car spares. We have decided with the rise of Vintage racing, that we could assist many Vintage teams by selling our unique collection of cars and parts.
